The March 20th episode of “Dollhouse,” “Man on the Street,” was billed as the game changer for the show, and most would agree it delivered. The episode shifted its focus from Echo to the many side plots that have been slowly developing and gave hope that the series would lead on to more exciting things than Echo going on dates with rich men.
Unfortunately the episode didn’t appear to do its job in keeping viewers, as episode 7, “Echoes,” saw a drop in viewership to its second-lowest ratings yet. “Echoes” was a welcome change of pace with the characters finally getting to loosen up and finally letting in some of that much needed trademark Whedon dialogue. A shame that it was only temporary though and we’re back to the same serious people acting very stern with each other.
Viewership for the March 27th episode saw a drop of 250,000 viewers. Meanwhile, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” gained 180,000 viewers. Those numbers should be enough to seal the fate for Joss Whedon’s latest show. I would say that it’s a shame to see it go, but it’s hardly even a Whedon show when half the cast doesn’t have a personality and the other half doesn’t have a sense of humor.
Fox is again advertising this week’s episode as another do-not-miss chapter in the series; We’ll see if the viewers end up tuning back in or flipping to “Supernanny.”
